How do you get Alec Empire, Mouse on Mars, The Raincoats, Jon Spencer, Solex(!), The Silver Apples, Alan Vega, The Fall, Psychic TV, The (International) Noise Conspiracy and The 5.6.7.8’s on one tribute album? By being The Monks. Given the somewhat limited songlist, it’s not necessarily an album you can listen through in one go, but it’s noisy, annoying, and ripe for random play....

it was time to fly west
and oversee something
or other
it wasn’t very clear
and in the end
things didn’t happen on time
so i was left with
a sudden overnight stay
in a grubby-windowed hotel
that was conveniently close
that i could get back to work
once there was something
to get back to
in the morning.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone on about all this - If you hadn’t yet heard the wonderful Cambodian Rocks compilation, WFMU just posted MP3s of it - 60’s / early 70’s rock and roll with more than a few local tweaks. I suggested visiting the local megaplex
so she could find a dress
not fully comprehending the crowd situation
the sight of a mother in Myer
searching for one kid
while the other starts to wander off, too
people dodging one another
in a fight to the front
of one of many
identically long Kmart queues.
it’s hard to feel like going out
these days
when I can...

are small
but nonetheless
i find myself
at home
more often than not
in a loop
of doing more work
at the kitchen table
keeping cool
with the cat
and not getting beyond
the next suburb or two
all weekend.
