wipe that sound
the afternoon fizzles out
in a tiny trail of upward smoke
work problem unsolved
everybody else has gone
so i head home, too
stopping by brunswick st
in the hope of finding reading
or listening material
two bookshops later
i emtpy-handed wait
at the edge of a side street
as a bright pink
Mary Kay-branded car
turns off the main road
but she slows down
giving me quite a
stare

via unmadeup, William Shaw’s latest project is to hitch-hike from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Well, assuming anybody still picks up hitch-hikers… Let’s hope it works out for the better. (via ajcos blog posts)
damp
dream: I was in a shop - for some reason I’d decided to buy a friend a new pair of jeans. She went to go and change in the stalls downstairs, which I noticed were underwater. A moment or two later she swam back up and decided it was too awkward to get changed in the water, and maybe it could wait.

it's the little things
Say goodbye to /usr/ccs/bin. Actually, the path is still intact in Solaris Nevada. The contents however have been moved to /usr/bin, with symbolic links remaining in /usr/ccs/bin for compatibility. Thank $DEITY for that. 14 years (or thereabouts) after moving from SunOS 4 to Solaris 2.x, I still often forget about it when I bring up a new Solaris box and haven’t moved my shell config over...

The three access control levels are simple and just what I needed, and the filesystem-based storage mechanism â no database needed â meant that the whole thing was done in a single step. No mucking around with MySQL!

a walk in the asphalt eden
Now that the house-hunting’s over, I could finally get out for a walk with the camera. After being reminded of this, I figured it was worth giving Abbotsford another go - there’s some lovely alleys with old brick walls full of old signs and such. …so I now have 162 photos of all things abbotsford. Well, not really all - you know my particular themes by now. Meanwhile, the...

a new shopping location

above a station
we’re looking for a few bits
of clothing
and i’m trying to adjust
to this new existence
this added responsibility
of a thirty year loan
so we wander the shops
with intentionally minimal decor
to try and make you feel
that things are cheaper here
can’t you tell?
i can remember enjoying shopping
many times in my life...

an isolated incident of forgetfulness is merely an indicator of other turmoil, i figure.
and with that, the sunday night feeling descends, 2 days too early. the weekend loses its gleam. there’s more to do. of course there is.

everything was better when you were twelve
on my block
i checked on our new house on the way home, as you do, especially when it’s so close. at the exact same moment, the current owners came home from work. as they opened the gate and walked to the door, i wondered - should i say hello? but no. coincidences are only significant because we make them so. so without breaking my step i left them alone, wished them well, and kept walking....
